Patna: JD(U) leader and well-known strongman Anant Singh won the Mokama Assembly seat for the sixth time on Friday, just days after being arrested in a murder case linked to the election campaign. This victory is also his third consecutive win while contesting from jail.
Popular among his supporters as “Chhote Sarkar,” Anant Singh was one of several strongmen or their family members who contested the Bihar election this year. While some of them secured important wins, others faced defeat.
Singh, who was arrested on November 2 for his alleged role in the killing of strongman Dular Chand Yadav, defeated RJD’s Veena Devi—wife of former MLA and local gangster Surajbhan Singh—by a margin of 28,206 votes.

Anant Singh (JD(U)): Won from Mokama for the sixth consecutive time, defeating RJD’s Veena Devi by 28,206 votes.
Radha Charan Seth (JD(U)): Won from Sandesh by only 27 votes, the smallest margin, defeating RJD’s Deepu Singh.
Narendra Kumar Singh alias Bogo Singh (RJD): Won from Matihani by 5,290 votes, defeating JD(U)’s Raj Kumar Singh.
Vishal Prashant (BJP): Son of gangster-turned-politician Sunil Pandey, won from Tarari by 10,659 votes, defeating CPI(ML)’s Madan Singh.
Osama Shahab (RJD): Son of late strongman Mohammad Shahabuddin, won from Raghunathpur by 9,248 votes, defeating JD(U)’s Vikas Kumar Singh.
Kedar Nath Singh (BJP): Brother of jailed gangster Prabhunath Singh, won from Baniapur by 15,436 votes.
Chetan Anand (JD(U)): Son of gangster-politician Anand Mohan, won from Nabinagar by a narrow margin of 112 votes.
Anita (RJD): Wife of gangster Ashok Mahto, won from Warisaliganj by 7,543 votes, defeating BJP’s Aruna Devi.

Reet Lal Roy (RJD): Lost from Danapur to BJP’s Ram Kripal Yadav by 29,188 votes.
Karnveer Singh Yadav (RJD): Lost from Barh to BJP’s Siyaram Singh by 24,813 votes.
Hulas Pandey (LJP-RV): Brother of Sunil Pandey, lost from Brahampur to RJD’s Shambhu Nath Yadav by 3,220 votes.
Bimla Bharti (RJD): Wife of criminal Awadhesh Mandal, lost from Rupauli by the largest margin—73,572 votes.
Shivani Shukla (RJD): Daughter of criminal Munna Shukla, lost from Lalganj to BJP’s Sanjay Kumar Singh by 32,167 votes.
This election once again shows how strongman families, their influence, and their local networks continue to play a major role in Bihar politics.
